Second Hour: Where Dedication Meets the Defining Moment
Second Hour is an independent Australian watch company founded on the belief that true value lies in enduring craftsmanship, not disposable consumption. We are guided by the enduring principles of traditional horology: passion, creativity, and an uncompromising dedication to the mechanical craft.
Our Name
Time moves in two ways. There's the kind measured in seconds and hours — the tick of a movement, the sweep of a hand. And then there's the kind you feel when you realise half your life has passed in service of someone else's vision.
Peter, Second Hour's founder, felt both. The name he chose for this company carries that weight deliberately. "Second Hour" is a nod to the language of horology — but more than that, it marks the beginning of his second chapter: the hours he chose to give to craft, to creativity, and to something that would outlast him.
"For decades, Peter brought his skills to other people's tables. Second Hour is the table he built himself."
The people
Second Hour is a husband-and-wife company. Peter spent his career in technology and transformation — large-scale, corporate work that demanded precision and discipline but rarely beauty. In midlife, he turned that same precision toward something more personal: teaching himself the art and mechanics of watchmaking from the ground up.
Akira brings a different kind of intelligence to the brand. Her background in fashion gave her a sharp eye for design, proportion and quality — but what she brings to Second Hour most is something harder to define. Every person who discovers Second Hour, browses a collection, or asks a question is met by someone who genuinely cares that they leave feeling good. Not sold to. Looked after.
Together, they bring to watchmaking what big brands rarely can: complete personal investment in every single piece.
The craft
Second Hour is a deliberate rejection of disposable culture. At a time when watches — like most things — have become commodities, Peter designs pieces meant to be worn for decades, inherited, and noticed.
Every model is designed in-house. Every part maker is visited in person. Every movement and material is chosen without compromise. There are no shortcuts because there is no one to answer to — no quarterly targets, no trend cycle to chase, no brand dilution to manage. Just two people asking: is this good enough to wear for a lifetime?
This one’s for you
If you've ever felt the quiet tension between the life you built and the life you imagined — if you know what it means to delay your own creative ambitions in favour of responsibility — then you already understand what Second Hour is about.
Our watches aren't for people who want to be seen. They're for people who want to own something meaningful. Something made with intention, worn with pride, and passed on with a story attached.
With easy returns that let you experience the quality and design of our watches in person, there’s never been a better time to discover that Second Hour really is where design and quality intersect.
